Chennai, Tamil Nadu Time:
Call to Action -
Communication
International Call for
Immediate Action!
To our brothers and
sisters in Tamil Nadu, India
Tamils, all over the world,
have been protesting for the last six months in front of
Parliaments, Ministries of Foreign Affairs, United Nations offices,
Embassies, Consular offices, and at numerous other locations. More
than 15 people have self-immolated in the hope that it would draw
the attention of the International community to intervene to stop
the on-going genocide in Sri Lanka. The Tamil diaspora have sent
delegation to meet with world leaders to plead with them to
intervene. In India, hundreds of rallies have been held to call on
the Government of India to stop the military, moral, and financial
assistance to the Government of Sri Lanka and to prevail on Sri
Lanka to bring about a an immediate cease-fire. Millions of people
from around the world have called on Sri Lanka to seek a negotiated
political solution.
But what has come out
of this until now? The genocide still continues.
The Government of India,
the only entity that can politically intervene to ensure an
immediate cease-fire, continues to turn a blind eye. How can we let
the silence continue, in the face of a genocide?
CanadianHART has therefore
taken the initiative to call on all our people spread far and wide
around the globe to join us in calling on our brothers and sisters
in Tamil Nadu, India to immediately act to ensure that the
Government of India intervenes immediately to bring a halt to the
genocide of Tamils.
WHAT NEEDS TO BE DONE?
We have gathered
information (phone and fax numbers, emails etc) on thousands of
contacts in Tamil Nadu who, we believe, can act to stop this war by
putting pressure on the Government of India. They are from various
fields - politics, academia, media, cinema, human rights etc. These
are individuals that have the power to call on their constituents -
their fans, their members, their associates, their friends – and
mobilize them to pressure the Government of India to IMMEDIATELY:
- Prevail on the
Government of Sri Lanka to reciprocate the ceasefire offer by
the Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam
- Call on Sri Lanka to
halt the killings of civilian in the war zone.
- Call on Sri Lanka to
allow humanitarian assistance to the affected people
WHAT ARE WE ASKING OF
OUR SUPPORTERS?
- To immediately release
statements to local or national media
- Organize a rally/event
to call for immediate action by India
- Call the political
leaders in India to act immediately and save the Tamils
Please visit the site (www.haltgenocide.org)
and call 10, 100, or all of them. Your call will ensure that these
people understand the severity of the crisis, the change that Tamil
Nadu and India can bring, and the urgency to halt the genocide.
